Good afternoon families,
Today, all students bought home a note about special arrangements for this bushfire season. I also wrote about this in yesterday's newsletter. I wanted to share this on the app, so that everyone has this information digitally, too.
The best way for you to help your child is to have a conversation with your children about the reason we need to prepare for something like this. You could discuss how this is similar and different to the most recent flood disaster in 2022 – we can prepare for and usually predict bushfires, we may have to leave our school/area to stay safe, plans give us the best chance of staying safe, bushfires and real evacuations are not everyday occurrences, etc. It would be helpful if you could remind your children about the importance of following directions in any emergency, real or drill.
Please use this letter to better inform your plans for if we need to evacuate our school.
I also wrote in the newsletter that I completely understand that this may make people feel uncomfortable, it may even upset our children, but we will support them through this. I’m of the opinion that it is necessary to feel a small amount of discomfort to be prepared and give us the best chance of staying safe if there is a hazard.
