Library and LOTE

Library/LOTE with Mrs McInnes

The school library supports literacy programs by providing quality reading materials for both personal reading development and informational needs of our students. We aim to impart a lifelong love for literature and a deep awareness of how being able to read transforms our lives.

Each class has a one hour lesson in the library during which time they are strongly encouraged to select books to borrow for leisure time reading. Every child participates in the Premier's Reading Challenge which encourages students to engage with a variety of literature. Students also participate in Information Skills lessons relevant to their information needs and stage of development.

"Literary Luncheons" are held each term, when we take our books outside into the environment, under the shade of our leafy trees and enjoy sharing our favourite stories. Parents and community are most welcome to attend these events.

Students K-6 study Mandarin for one hour each week. During these lessons they study spoken and written Chinese along with cultural studies of China.

We aim to develop an awareness of Australia's geographic region through involvement in a range of experiences including a bi-annual Children's Festival when we celebrate our cultural diversity through a range of multicultural activities including dance, drama, costume, music and cuisine.
